7th Anniversary
October 20, 2001
State of Idaho
City of Sun Valley
Sun Valley Lodge
For our seventh anniversary, the two of us returned to Sun Valley, Idaho where we had spent some time vacationing in previous years. We stayed at the Sun Valley Lodge which has been a ski destination for Hollywood stars for the past 80 years. Although we didn't ice skate on the rink outside the hotel, Eric did buy a pair of used hockey skates at a local thrift store thus fulfilling a lifelong dream to have his own skates. We enjoyed strolling through the quiet atmosphere of the town, as the ski season had not yet begun. We browsed a lot of the local shops and walked country roads and quiet trails.
Saturday was a crisp, sunny day, and a local minister, who we had contacted that morning, married us on the Lodge grounds beside a pond surrounded by mountains. We enjoyed a special and romantic dinner at the Lodge Dining Room and purchased our first anniversary gifts for each other at the Thomas Mangelsen gallery. We explored some of the history of Ernest Hemingway in the area as well as visited Hemingway's grave site in the local Ketchum cemetery.
We enjoyed a very relaxing weekend in Sun Valley and even had time to watch our favorite Sun Valley film, Sun Valley Serenade (1941), starring Sonja Henie, John Payne, Glenn Miller and Milton Berle.
Exactly nine months later, our son, Jackson, was born...hmmm.
