"He seriously sought by a perpetual recapture of his bride to keep alive the sense of her perpetual value, and the perils that should be run for her sake. ...it is just because he loves one wife that he has a hundred honeymoons."

We get married every year in a different state. We do it to celebrate marriage and to remember, on our anniversary, exactly what we said to each other at our original wedding in 1994 in Wichita Falls, Texas. But why a marriage celebration? Quite simply, we have a lot to celebrate. In 1994, after that wedding, two young people moved out to California to begin a life together as husband and wife. Since then we have grown, matured and started to understand the many blessings of marriage.
We celebrate marriage itself and the fact that marriage is God’s gift to us as imperfect humans to picture the perfect union of Jesus Christ, the bridegroom, and the Church, His bride. Having created the picture and chosen us to live out that picture, God has also promised many practical blessings within marriage. We rejoice daily in all the blessings that God provides within the framework of our marriage.
We celebrate each year together. Every anniversary we are older, wiser and more in love. We rejoice in God’s perfect plan that brought us together. A good friend told us on our wedding day that as much as we loved each other on that day, it would only grow. We nodded and went on our way. Each day has proved to us that the love we had in 1994 pales in comparison to what has blossomed under God’s nurture.
We celebrate the other marriages we see around us. We are thankful for the marriages of friends who are growing in their knowledge of the joys and responsibilities of marriage as we are. We are even more thankful for the marriages of parents and other mature couples that are living examples of Godly men and women striving together.
We celebrate one of the fruits of a Godly marriage, namely children. We have rejoiced with friends and family as their families have grown, and we cannot even express the daily joy of raising our own sons. We have grown to realize the awesome responsibility it is to raise children “in the nurture and admonition of the Lord” and know it can only be done in the environment of a Godly marriage.
We celebrate our struggles, the hard providences, and the daily efforts even when the body is weak. We celebrate this because we know that the testing makes us stronger as we learn to rely more completely on God.
We celebrate God’s faithfulness. We are thankful that “he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
This website chronicles our travels as we celebrate our marriage each year on or around our anniversary date. Instead of buying little trinkets for each other, we get away, see another state, and recommit to the vows we took on our original wedding day. You are invited to travel along from year to year and explore the country with us as we celebrate marriage.
Thanks for visiting.
