Official Wedding
October 22, 1994
State of Texas
City of Wichita Falls
First Christian Church
Our original wedding and still the one that tops them all took place in Wichita Falls, TX on October 22, 1994. Eric proposed to Julie on December 29, 1993 in the restaurant of the Plaza Hotel in New York City after a dinner at the Russian Tea Room and a Broadway show. Soon thereafter we decided on a date for our wedding the following October. Eric was living in California and most of the planning fell to Julie. She did a wonderful job and the wedding weekend was perfect.
Since the wedding was in Wichita Falls most of the people outside of Julie's immediate family had to travel to get to the wedding and most flew in on Thursday including Eric. Eric flying in on Thursday posed a small legal problem around the Texas waiting period but that's another story.
Friday was a big day for Eric and all the men. Eric arranged a golf outing at Weeks Park and everyone showed up. Everyone from Eric's high school golfing buddy, to his college roommate to his father, future father in law and finally is almost 100 year old future grandfather-in-law. All told there were about 5-6 foursomes and everyone had a great time. Julie spent the day putting finishing touches on the wedding plans and visiting with her friends that had come into town.
Friday evening was the rehearsal at the First Christian Church and rehearsal dinner at the University Club atop a bank building overlooking the city.

Saturday Morning
Julie's Grandmother Dennis held a Bridesmaids Brunch at her house. It was a fun time to relax and prepare for the big ceremony. She even had dolls on the table dressed in similar dresses to the bridesmaids' wedding attire.
Eric celebrated with a breakfast in downtown Wichita Falls with all of his childhood and college friends who had come in for the wedding from around the country.
The Wedding (First Christian Church, Wichita Falls, TX)
Les McGalliard (Julie's pastor in Texas) and Mike Pedlowe (Eric's Jr High Youth Pastor in Virginia) officiated the ceremony. Eric's childhood friend Dave Stutts sang the Lords' Prayer. Julie's brother, Kevin Dennis, wrote the processional and recessional for the string quartet that played.
Thanks to Julie's Dad, the guests eventually were given permission to sit down after the ceremony began as the officiant forgot to tell them to be seated. That was kind of funny.
We memorized and recited our vows to each other. It was nerve-wracking, but we are glad we did it that way. The pastor accidentally skipped over the playing of Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring which Julie's brother, Kevin, was to play on guitar. That was a bit of a bummer, but we didn't stop or go back.
Reception (First Christian Church)
We had our first dance as Dave Stutts sang I Will Be Here (Steven Curtis Chapman). Then Julie and her dad danced to Wind Beneath My Wings(Bette Midler). Eric and his mom danced as well. The cake had live flowers and every layer was a different flavor. We fed each other the traditional bites and looked forward to enjoying more when we celebrated our first anniversary, but we lost the cake in a family divorce as it was being stored in a freezer that left the family. (Yes, it's funny.)
There were hors d'ovres and lots of wonderful fellowship. Lance Sticksel caught the garter, and Lisa Wink caught the bouquet. We left the church as the guests tossed bird seed followed by shouts of congratulations. Julie's red Geo Prism has been appropriately decorated, and we left for the Dallas airport after a short stopover at Julie's parent's house to change clothes.
We stayed the wedding night at the Hyatt at the Dallas airport. Interestingly, because of the mandatory waiting period in Texas (72 hours) and Eric's arrival in Texas to get a marriage license (less than 72 hours before the wedding day), our official marriage license says that we were married on October 23rd. Thankfully, God joined us sooner than the state of Texas, so the wedding night was celebrated by a truly married couple.
We were off for a week to Jamaica for a romantic honeymoon at the Couples Resort.
When we returned from our honeymoon we loaded up the U-Haul, tied Julie's car on the back and drove west to begin our married life together in Los Angeles.
